 Material assistance

 

What is financial help?

Financial support for PhD students are benefits paid from the funds accumulated in the financial aid fund for fstudents and doctoral students that come from state subsidies.

Material assistance benefits include (article 199, paragraph. 1 of the Law on Higher Education) scholarships awarded  at the university:

     social scholarships (including the possibility of obtaining the allowance for living in a dormitory or other facility for a PhD student or his spouse or child),

     benefit paid in a emergency situation,

     scholarship for the best doctoral students,

     special scholarship for people with disabilities,

and scholarship awarded by minister of science and higher education (more information on website of Ministry of Science and Higher Education)

 

APPLICATIONS

Documents  need to be submitted to the Secretary of doctoral studies within the second Friday of October each academic year, for example, in 2015 it will be a 9th of October.

The material assistance in Warsaw School of Economics are granted pursuant to the Law on Higher Education and the Ordinance of Warsaw School of Economics Rector on the subject (you can find them in the "acts").

Pursuant to Article 175 paragraph. 1 of the Law on Higher Education and the Ordinance of Warsaw School of Economics Rector social scholarship, benefit paid in a emergency situation and special scholarship for people with disabilities shall be granted by the dean of the college, or (if he delegates his powers) by collegiate scholarship committee. In short, these benefits are granted in the college

In accordance with Article 175 paragraph. 2 of the Law on Higher Education and the Ordinance of Warsaw School of Economics Rector scholarship for the best doctoral students is awarded by the Appeal Scholarship Committee to Doctoral Affairs (Rector  delegates his powers to Committee). In short, these benefits are granted at the university  level. The material assistance may receive PhD students who are participants of intramural and extramural studies who are also Polish citizens or non-citizens persons according to the rules laid article 43 paragraph 2 and 5a of the Law on Higher Education.

Citizens of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - a party of the Agreement on the European Economic Area and members of their families may ONLY receive a scholarship for the best doctoral students.

Article 43, paragraph 2 and 5a of the Law on Higher Education applies to:

     foreigners  who have been granted permission to settle,

     foreigners with refugee status granted in the Republic of Polish,

     foreigners enjoying temporary protection on Polish territory,

     workers who are citizens of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the agreement of the European Economic Area, as well as their family members, if they live on Polish territory,

     foreigners, which on Polish territory granted a residence permit long-term resident of the European Communities,

     foreigners, which on Polish territory granted residence permit for a fixed period of time due to the circumstance referred to in article 53 paragraph. 1, paragraph 7, 13 and 14 of the Act of 13 June 2003. of Aliens (Official set No. 128, item. 1175, as amended),

     foreigners who have been granted subsidiary protection on Polish territory,

     citizens of Member States of the European Union, the Member States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation and their family members having a right of permanent residence,

     holders of a valid Card of the Pole.

 

CONDITIONS

The Ordinance of Warsaw School of Economics Rector on the granting of material assistance defines the conditions which must be met in order to receive the benefit.

In short, a condition of receipt in case of:

     social scholarship - financial situation of PhD student,

     benefit paid in a emergency situation - difficult financial situation due to reasons beyond,

     special scholarship for people with disabilities - disability confirmed by the judgment of the competent authority,

     scholarship for the best doctoral students:

     in the first year of doctoral studies - to achieve very good results in the recruitment procedures (for very good results in the recruitment procedures are considered to assess the range of 4.5 - 5.5, or the number of points representing at least 90% of the ingested scale points),

     on the second and subsequent years of doctoral studies - to meet all of the following criteria:

     obtain very good or good exam results under the program of doctoral studies,

     show progress in scientific work (are considered scientific publications and participation in scientific events) and in the preparation of the doctoral dissertation,

     show - during the doctoral studies - special commitment in didactics,

     the timely completion of the doctoral program,

     submission of an application for a scholarship for the best doctoral study to the secretary of doctoral studies (or other person designated by the Rector of the university) to the Appeal Scholarship Committee to Doctoral Affairs.
